Mains gas leak shuts key Oxford road near Kennington
Oxford Road, south of the city and passing through Bagley Wood near Kennington, has been closed in both directions since around 8.21am.
The closure affects the stretch between Sugworth Lane and Foxcombe Road.
Southern Gas Network told the Oxford Mail that the leak was found on a high-pressure gas pipe.
Residents have reported the smell of gas in the area, with five locations in the OX1 area affected.
Two Oxford Bus Company services, including the X1 and X15 are unable to serve Boars Hill as a result.
The services will divert via the A34 in both directions, and the stops at Hinksey Hill Bottom, Hinksey Hill Top, the Sawmill and Sugworth Lane will not be served.
It said: “We expect major delays and disruption to some of our departures as some vehicles are caught in the closure. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
