Gilbert and Sullivan classic coming to Wantage stage
Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic comedy The Pirates of Penzance is being brought to life by King Alfred’s Academy Centre Site.
Brought to you by AmEgos Theatre, the amateur production is full of wit, romance, and catchy songs.
The show tells the story of young Frederic as he attempts to leave behind a band of well-intentioned pirates, only to find himself tangled in a web of mistaken identities and comic twists.
The cast features 17 performers from the area, supported by an orchestra of 12 local musicians. Joshua McFarland will play the lead role of Frederic.
Mr McFarland said: “I am so excited to be playing Fred in Pirates.
“The singing is off the charts, and we all get to do some pretty tasty dancing too.
“The last few weeks of rehearsals are going so well – we’ve been working hard both with the director and choreographer and in each other’s houses on our off nights, such is our sense of duty.”
The Pirates of Penzance will run for four performances, beginning Thursday, July 23, with shows each evening at 7.30pm and a matinee on Saturday, July 25 at 2.30pm.
AmEgos Theatre was founded in 2012 and has staged 24 productions for audiences totalling more than 6,500 people.
This latest show is described as ‘an evening of high-spirited entertainment and timeless comedy – brought up to date for the 21st century’.
Tickets start at £14 plus a booking fee.
