Wantage care home residents enjoy revamped garden space

The transformation at St Katharine’s Care Home was made possible through a collaborative project led by charity Parkinsons.Me, with support from Taylor & Francis volunteers and care home staff.

Ewan Stutt, founder of Parkinsons.Me, said: “Gardening has always been incredibly important to me, and I know how powerful outdoor spaces can be for wellbeing.

“It’s been wonderful to work with such a committed group of volunteers from Taylor and Francis to create something that will make a real difference to our daily lives.”

Volunteers have been working to turn a previously underused part of the garden into a soothing and accessible area where residents and their families can spend time together outdoors.

Mayor of Wantage Iain Cameron, who visited the site during the project, said: “It was a pleasure to visit St Katharine’s Care Home and see the incredible work being carried out by St Katharine’s staff and residents, Parkinsons.Me, and the volunteers from Taylor & Francis.

“Projects like this make a real difference to residents’ wellbeing, creating spaces where people can relax, connect, and enjoy time outdoors.”

The project also aims to support residents living with Parkinson’s by offering a tranquil space to spend time outside.

Gary Strickland, chair of trustees at Parkinsons.Me, said: “This project reflects what Parkinsons.Me is all about – bringing people together, supporting wellbeing, and creating positive, practical change in the community.”
