Oxfordshire Tesco petrol station reopens after Pontiac fire
The petrol station at the Abingdon Tesco, off Marcham Road, was closed on Saturday, May 30, after a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am muscle car burst into flames when the owner attempted to start the vehicle.
This incident occurred at around 8.30am and saw Alan Mutton – a 74-year-old from Kennington, Oxfordshire – and his nephew Mr Fleming, who was visiting from the United States, battle the blaze.

Ambulances were seen and the driver – whose identity is unknown – had some burns on his legs according to Mr Fleming.
He was taken to the Tesco superstore for immediate first aid.
Meanwhile, Mr Fleming and Mr Mutton fought the flames with another unnamed man, emptying eight fire extinguishers as they doused the fire.

Following this, reportedly the petrol station was closed throughout Saturday, with an eyewitness commenting that it was also shut on Sunday.
Tesco has not provided any comment on the fire nor the status of the petrol station, however an eyewitness today (Monday, June 1) said that the petrol station has reopened.
Commenting on the fire incident on Saturday, Mr Fleming said: “We started out this morning quite exciting; it got a couple of old guys’ blood flowing.”
