Oxfordshire councillor raises more than £30k for charity
The total was raised during Councillor Mark Lygo’s term as chair of Oxfordshire County Council, supporting three of his chosen charities.
The funds will benefit OXSRAD, the Riding for the Disabled Association, and Oxford United in the Community through a series of events, including quiz nights, a gala dinner, a spinathon, and a football match.
Councillor Lygo, before he hands over to his successor, at the council’s annual meeting on 12 May, said: “It has been a real privilege to serve as Chair over the past year and to see such generosity from council staff, councillors, community organisations and residents.
“Together, we have raised a fantastic amount for three very deserving charities. Thank you to everyone who supported these efforts and helped make a real difference to local people and communities across Oxfordshire.”
A total of £10,300 was raised through events including four charity quiz events, a cake sale and the annual Chair’s charity gala dinner.
The Chair’s charity gala dinner, held in the HMS Diamond Room at County Hall, was attended by thirty special guests, including the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, who represents His Majesty The King, and local government representatives from across the county.
A further £20,200 was raised through events the Chair took part in, including a spinathon, charity football match, bingo nights and quiz nights.
EM Normandie Business School also donated £500 to the Chair’s chosen charities.
