Oxfordshire: 5 family activities for May bank holiday weekend

We have compiled a list of some of the activities you can do with your family in Oxfordshire.

Here are five things to keep you busy:

Chipping Norton Lido

Chipping Norton hosts the ‘Chippy Lido’.

The lido, which opened on April 11, is open all summer but could be the perfect activity (providing the weather is good) for the bank holiday weekend.

With an off-peak ticket starting at £8.75 for adults, there are a range of activities.

Visitors can choose from a relaxed swim, sauna, yoga, or cold plunge.

Cotswold Wildlife Park

The park near Burford is home to more than 1,500 animals from 250 different species.

The attraction is extremely popular so be warned if you are travelling along the A361 to prepare in advance.

Bosses have warned of disruption on Thursday, May 14 as a result of a scheduled closure of the A361 from the Burford roundabout to the wildlife park crossroads.

Wonder of Birds Exhibition

Starting this Saturday visitors to the Bodleian library can visits this exhibition for free.

With inspiration from The Book of Birds, created by artist Jackie Morris and writer Robert Macfarlane. Both the exhibition and the book reflect on the decline of bird populations.

The exhibition unfolds through seven themed sections, from nest and egg to feather, flight and migration, combining original artwork and writing with treasures from the Bodleian’s extensive collections.

Medieval Jousting

Running from May 2 to May 4, visitors to Stonor Park Hollow can watch the action unfold in an enactment of medieval sport.

Tickets include access to Tumblestone Hollow adventure playground and also include free access to Stonor’s house and gardens, making sure there is something special for everyone.

Along with a falconry display, visitors can also expect delicious food and drink from a range of street food vendors. 

Visitors to Blenheim Palace will also find a host of jousting activities.

Henley Arts Trail

From May 2 to May 4 visitors to Henley can discover a variety of artists.

Founded in 2006, The Henley Arts Trail is celebrating its 20th year.

The trail was set up to showcase the amazing talent in the area. It’s gone from strength to strength and now shows the work of more than 300 creatives in 36 venues. 

From paintings, prints and photography to sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles and everything in between.

The venues are free to enter so you can visit as many as you like to view the varied and beautiful work.
