Oxford United stars receive UEFA Nations League squad selection

The international tournament kicks off on Thursday, September 24 with a clash between European minnows Andorra and Malta.

A quartet of Oxford names have been called up by their respective nations with Wales and Northern Ireland selecting Yellows players.

Wales, who kick off their campaign away at current holders Portugal, have selected U’s striker Mark Harris for their 28-player squad.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland have called up three members of Aaron Ramsey’s U’s squad in Brodie Spencer, Ciaron Brown and Jamie McDonnell.

The Green and White Army begin the tournament away against Georgia before hosting Hungary in Belfast.

Michael O’Neill’s men then take on Ukraine ahead of playing Georgia for a second time in an extended two-week international break consisting of four matches per nation.

Harris’ Wales follow up their challenging opening fixture against the current champions with a trip to Denmark.

They then face Norway and Denmark, again, both at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Welsh striker Harris has scored three goals in the opening five games of the season and is Oxford’s joint top scorer alongside fellow centre forward Gatlin O’Donkor.

The 27-year-old is a consistent selection for the Red Dragons having made his debut against Belarus in 2017 whilst at Cardiff City, despite not necessarily being first-choice no.9.

The Swansea-born player previously travelled to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar but did not make an appearance.

The Northern Irish trio of Spencer, Brown and McDonnell are also consistent picks for their nation.

Spencer made his international debut as an 18-year-old in 2022, whilst London-born centre back Brown achieved his maiden cap in 2019.

Midfielder McDonnell, who recently scored his first goal for Oxford in a 4-0 win at Leicester City, is a more recent debutant, appearing for his country for the first time in November 2025 against Germany.
