The ex-Yellows boss has been linked with the vacant managerial post at Adams Park after the Chairboys parted ways with Michael Duff earlier in the week.

Duff’s sacking was the first of the season in the EFL, the former Swansea City and Barnsley manager being relieved of duties after only five games in which Wanderers failed to win.

Bloomfield was sacked by Oxford in June after the club’s relegation from the Championship and was replaced by former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The 42-year-old spent his entire 19-year playing career with Wycombe, captaining the club, before going on to manage the side between 2023 and 2025.

After Duff’s dismissal, Bloomfield was asked about a potential return to Buckinghamshire on Sky Sport whilst providing punditry for Stevenage’s 2-1 League One win over one of his other former clubs, Luton Town.

The former U’s boss said: “No, the phone hasn’t rung.

“[Wycombe] is a club that means so much to me.

“I spent 21 years there as a player, as a coach and as a manager. We left the club in great shape.

“I was disappointed for Michael [Duff] because he’s someone I like and respect a lot.

“I was also obviously disappointed for the club because it is a club that means a great deal to me after so many years there.

“It’s a surprise it has come so early, but the ownership group obviously made their decision and, as we all know in football, you have to move on.”

Wycombe currently sit second-bottom of the League One table having drawn three and lost two of their opening five fixtures.

Bloomfield was alongside Bristol Rovers manager Steve Evans who was confident his colleague in the television studio would be attracting interest.

“He did such a great job at Wycombe,” the Rovers boss said.

“He will be on the radar.”

The former Wanderers and Oxford head coach spent almost two decades at Adams Park before retiring in 2022.

He quickly turned to management, taking over at Colchester United where he steered the club away from the relegation zone in League Two and up the table.

A return to Wycombe came just five months later, replacing his former boss Gareth Ainsworth and subsequently guiding the side to a push for automatic promotion the following season.

Bloomfield took the step up to Championship side Luton Town in January 2025 after an impressive half of the season at Wanderers but was unable to keep the struggling Hatters from relegation.

He was sacked the following season after a disappointing start before being appointed Oxford boss in January of this year.

Fans can purchase tickets for the Sky Bet League One fixture online, in person, or over the phone from noon.

The club has been allocated 2,236 tickets for the game at Meadow Lane on Saturday, October 10, with kick-off at 12.30pm.

The tickets are priced at £24 for adults, £19 for over 65s and under 25s, £15 for under 21s, £11 for under 18s, and £4 for under 12s.

Students can get tickets for £10 but will need to present ID on entry.

All under 14s must be accompanied by an adult over 18.

The game is fully digital, with print-at-home and mobile download tickets available.

Also, 10 wheelchair and personal assistant tickets are available, with limited disabled parking at the ground.

Well, certainly not in a positive sense.

To a man, including the jubilant away support, Oxford were magnificent on Saturday afternoon.

It had every ingredient of a perfect away performance; energy, organisation, confidence, speed, conviction and relentless hard work.

From the first minute Aaron Ramsey’s side were a joy to watch and a beast that Leicester City simply couldn’t handle.

The yellows struck the perfect balance between control with and without the ball, knowing when to build patiently and when to cause a threat on the turnover, while also showing the composure and calmness to take the chances when they came.

Ramsey’s midfield selection was instrumental to all of United’s successes at the King Power.

Jamie McDonnell’s role in screening the back four and sweeping up danger allowed Cameron Brannagan to control proceedings with his expansive passing range, while Kai Andrews’ athleticism and power allowed him to cover immense ground, find pockets of space and make some outstanding channel runs in behind the opposition backline.

All three roles suited their best attributes, and Oxford reaped the rewards.

And a word on Mo Missanga. Super Mo Missanga.

The Yellows’ summer registration embargo meant any new faces, bar the eventual short-term loans, were only going to come from one place.

Ramsey has mentioned on numerous occasions how he spotted Mo in an academy fixture during one of his first visits, and on Saturday afternoon, that raw, fearless and vibrant talent was there for everybody to see.

His role in Oxford’s opener was only the start of a rather breathtaking second league start.

First, the speed and intelligence to make the run in behind, and then the composure and quality of the delivery into the box for Mark Harris to attack.

But all eyes were on Missanga in the 57th minute when his bursting run allowed him to get onto the end of a pass from Andrews.

The conviction and calmness in front of goal was a joy to watch, nearly as much of a joy as seeing a local lad from the club’s academy system celebrating with 2,000 travelling fans after putting his football club two goals ahead at the home of the former Premier League champions.

From Simon Eastwood’s first clean sheet in three years, McDonnell’s first goal and best performance in an Oxford shirt, Missanga’s first professional goal and Harris’ first Oxford brace since we travelled to Burton Albion in 2024, you could say it was a memorable trip for more reasons than just one.

If a display as complete as that can’t breed confidence, nothing will.

With two home games next, more of the same would do just fine.
