Old photo of 1990s demolition of iconic Oxford water tower

Westminster College Water Tower stood on Harcourt Hill in Oxford since the training college moved to the site in 1959.

It was built in the 1930s and became an iconic landmark in Oxford, standing at 120ft tall.

However, it was demolished in 1993 due to structural issues.

These old photos show the tower coming down, and other demolition sites in Oxford’s history.

Other pictures featured in the gallery show the demolition of houses along Fisher Row on the Oxford Canal, now the scenic path off Park End Street.

Several pictures show the demolition of the Austin Rover plant in Cowley, before it was transformed into the MINI Plant which still operates today.
