Sam Harris, 37, said: “I have a son myself and we are all trying to get more youngsters involved.

“We want to get them off their TVs and catching some fish.”

Stocking all fishing equipment – apart from for sea fishing – the shop will be open from 8.30am to 6pm from Monday to Friday, and 10am until 5pm on weekends.

“We have all got a massive love for fishing,” added Mr Harris, who is one of several people behind the enterprise.

He continued: “We have all done it for many years.

“With all the shops closing around us, we think we will be able to give some very good advice to local anglers.

“We think they will love it.”

Oxfordshire is a popular area for fishing including a number of streams as well as 19-lake angling complex Linear Fisheries.

However, Tackle Club is going to have a particular focus on encouraging fishing among younger people, with a Catch of the Day competition every week and educational days with top fishing pros.

Mr Harris added: “I think customer services will be a focus for us. Fishing has really helped us in terms of our mental health and we want to help others as well.”
