Kingston Bagpuize – Police statement on caravan park fire

Emegrency services were called to tackle the blaze, believed to be started by a barbecue, on Sunday afternoon, July 12.

Some 125 firefighters from four county areas rushed to extinguish the flames, which had erupted through Oaks caravan park.

Nobody was injured, but drone footage from above the park suggest at least six static caravans have been destroyed.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is treating the fire as accidental, but has yet to come back with a cause.

In an update, a police spokesman said: “Following a fire that officers supported the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service with at Oaks Caravan Park in Abingdon on Sunday evening (12/7), we are continuing work with them to and are in the process of allowing some residents to return to their caravans where it is deemed there is no risk.

“Road have re-opened following closures on Faringdon Road, the A415 Kingston Road, A338 and Digging Lane.

“We would like to thank the community for following the advice of emergency services during this time.”

A fire service spokesman said: “Fire control staff from the joint Thames Valley Fire Control Service have spent the past twelve hours co-ordinating significant resources movements and ensuring fire cover across the wider Thames Valley along with multiple other incidents.

“There are no reported injuries from the incident, and the cause of the fire is currently considered accidental. Fire investigation will continue today supported by a drone team from Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire

“Across the UK, fire crews have dealt with high numbers of incidents in the hot, dry weather and urge the public to continue to take additional care whilst the risk of fires starting remains very high.”
