Faringdon primary pupils recognised at sports awards
The Cambrian Sports Awards, held on July 2 at Faringdon Community College, celebrated the sporting talent and dedication of primary pupils from schools across the Faringdon schools within Cambrian Learning Trust.
It was organised to highlight the importance of sport and physical education in personal development, and to acknowledge pupils who have displayed resilience, teamwork, and leadership both on and off the field.
Paul Chadwick, who organised the event, said: “We are so proud of the work our schools do in supporting children in sport and PE.
“Events like these highlight the strong position our schools put our students in as they move to secondary school.
“The event was a great evening that recognised quality, perseverance, effort and dedication to PE and sport and the students came away with not just a medal but an overwhelming sense of pride and achievement.”
Pupils were nominated in categories ranging from cricket to dance and football.
The top honours of Sports Boy and Sports Girl were awarded to standout individuals from across all participating schools.
Former Olympic fencer James Beevers delivered an inspirational speech, reflecting on his journey in elite sport and the Olympic values that have guided him since the age of seven.
Richard Evans, chief executive of Cambrian Learning Trust, said: “Sport has a unique ability to inspire confidence, resilience and ambition in young people.
“These awards celebrate not only outstanding performances but the character, determination and teamwork that help every child grow.”
