Barratt urges children to avoid Oxfordshire building sites
Barratt and David Wilson Homes are urging families to choose safer places for children to play, like parks and playgrounds.
The companies warn that building sites have dangers, such as heavy machinery and uneven ground.
Helen Lewis, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes, said: “We fully support children playing and staying active where they live, but our message for the summer holidays is simply to be safe and avoid going near live building sites.
“Curiosity and adventure are important parts of a child’s development, but construction sites can be dangerous.
“We encourage children and families to use the public open spaces on our developments, as well as other safe local facilities, instead.”
The companies have suggested local parks, playgrounds, leisure centres, and walking and cycling routes as safer options.
They noted that many of their communities are close to scenic routes suitable for family outings and exercise.
Outdoor play, as noted by Action for Children, has many health benefits for kids.
Just 10 to 15 minutes outside can help their physical and mental development.
Children should also aim to do 60 minutes of exercise per day, which could include running, climbing, skipping, jumping or kicking a ball at the park.
The homebuilders hope their advice will help keep children safe while still allowing them to have fun and stay active over the summer break.
