Award-winning sitcom Schitt’s Creek coming to BBC iPlayer
The full box set of the Canadian comedy, which has won worldwide acclaim and a host of awards, will be available for binge-watching from Saturday, June 6.
Schitt’s Creek follows a wealthy family who lost their fortune after being defrauded by their business manager. They’re all forced to live in the family’s only remaining house in the rural town named Schitt’s Creek.
The series ran for six seasons, originally airing on CBS in 2015 before gaining wider popularity on Netflix in 2017.
It won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy) in 2021 and earned individual awards for its leading cast members.
The sitcom stars Eugene Levy, known for his role in American Pie, as Johnny Rose, alongside Catherine O’Hara, famed for her appearance in Home Alone.
Eugene Levy co-created the show with his son, Dan Levy, who also stars in the series.
Schitt’s Creek left UK Netflix in May and, until now, was only available for purchase through Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV.
The BBC confirmed the news in a statement.
The BBC said: “Hide your diamonds, hide your exes. Schitt’s Creek is coming to the BBC.
“All episodes of the award-winning Canadian sitcom, created by father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer from June 6.”
Reactions from fans have been enthusiastic.
One viewer said: “Be afraid. Be very afraid. You will be totally hooked on this family.”
Another described it as “It’s kind of the best show of all time.”
