Historic Greene King pub in Oxfordshire town up for sale
The Cromwell on North Bar Street in Banbury, which is a hotel as well as a pub, is run by the major chain, with its sale being conducted by Savills.
It has a 4 star rating based on over 800 Google reviews and boasts 25 ensuite rooms with planning permission to increase that number to 28.

Its listing states: “Internally the property has a large bar and restaurant area, function room, catering kitchen and customer WC’s at ground floor.

“At the rear of the property is a permanent marquee used for weddings and events.
“The hotel accommodation is laid out over ground, first and second floor levels and provides 25 en-suite bedrooms.
“In addition there are three staff rooms and a one bedroom manager’s flat.”

The 17th-century property also has a beer garden with 66 covers and a car park to the rear for around 20 vehicles.
its 2026 business rates value is £47,300 and the property will be sold as seen including all fixtures and fittings. It is not a listing building but is within the Banbury Conservation Area.
The listing added: “The building is of traditional construction under a pitched slate roof with brick extensions to the rear and dressed natural stone façade to the street.”

Witney crowds join mayor in raising of Saint George’s flag
The red and white flag was hoisted in the town centre on Thursday, April 23, with Mayor Andy Bailey and other members of Witney Town Council.
Pupils from St Mary’s Infant School and visitors from the Ice Centre attended the event, which began with a rousing town cry and cheers from the gathered crowd.
In a post online, Witney Town Council said: “Today, beneath clear skies in the heart of our town, the Cross of St George was proudly raised, its red and white colours waving in the breeze as a symbol of heritage, unity, and shared pride.”
Saint George’s Day, celebrated on April 23, is the feast day of England’s patron saint and holds wider religious significance across multiple countries and regions where Saint George is revered.
It’s a longstanding tradition and a moment for the community to come together.

Banbury fatal crash – tributes for woman after Honda crash
The collision occurred at approximately 6.51pm on April 8, at the junction of Rye Hill and Tadmarton Road in Wigginton Heath near Banbury.
It involved a silver Honda Jazz and a red Mini Cooper.
Tragically, the female passenger of the Mini Cooper died in hospital on Monday, April 13.
A woman in her 20s from Chipping Norton has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle otherwise in accordance with a licence. She has been released on police bail.

The Mini Cooper was also carrying a 59-year-old male driver and a 28-year-old male rear-seat passenger, both of whom suffered minor injuries and have since been discharged from hospital.
Detective constable Melissa Wells, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a woman has sadly lost her life. Our thoughts remain with her family at this incredibly difficult time.
“We are continuing to carry out a full and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision, and we are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who saw either vehicle in the moments leading up to it, to please come forward.”

Lidl – Banbury woman flashed by man at Concorde Avenue
The incident happened at around 8.30am on Monday, April 20 when a woman was walking through an underpass beneath Concorde Avenue in Banbury.
She was travelling from Bridge Street towards the rear of Lidl on her way to the Spiceball gym when she was approached by the unknown man.
He was standing in the underpass and as the victim approached, he spoke to her and behaved in an “inappropriate manner”, according to officers.

The woman was not physically injured but is said to have been left distressed by the incident.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the expose incident as part of their investigation.
A spokesman for the force said: “Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, was in the area at the time, or anyone else who may have experienced similar behaviour in the same location.
“Anyone with information, CCTV, dash‑cam, or mobile phone footage is asked to call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43260197969.”
