Runner Reuben Leather is raising funds for Cancer Research UK and has set a £2,500 target.

He promised his late grandmother that he would complete the marathon in her memory.

Mr Leather said: “In 2024, my Nan sadly passed away from cancer.

“My final promise to her was that I would do the London Marathon for Cancer Research in memory of her, so today I am making it happen!

“My Grandad also managed to fight off cancer an amazing four times, inspiring us all.

“Sadly, his wife (my Grandma) passed away from cancer before I was born.”

Mr Leather’s aunt, Claire Painting, said the family is incredibly proud.

She said: “My nephew is running the London marathon for Cancer Research, as three of his grandparents passed away due to this terrible disease and he is passionate about raising awareness and money for this charity in support of others in their memory.”

The marathon will take place in 2026, and Reuben has already completed the Brighton Marathon as part of his training.

Mr Leather said: “One in two people will get cancer in their lives, so let’s maximise their chance of survival by supporting this amazing charity.

“Thank you to everyone who donates and supports me in fulfilling my final promise to my Nan. I will try to do it in three hours and 30 minutes.”
