Why has Adam Peaty changed his name to Ramsay-Peaty?

The 31-year-old is one of Team GB’s most successful swimmers, having won three Olympic gold medals, and has also earned eight World Championship titles, 16 European Championship titles, and four Commonwealth golds.

After the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, there was speculation that Ramsay-Peaty would retire from swimming, but he made a comeback at the 2026 Commonwealth Games following a 20-month break from competition.

He secured a bronze medal in the men’s 100m breaststroke on Saturday, July 25, and will compete in the men’s 50m breaststroke on Monday, July 27.

Why did Adam Ramsay-Peaty change his name?

The name change is due to his marriage to Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon.

The couple married in December 2025, and Ramsay-Peaty chose to incorporate his wife’s surname into his own.

However, their wedding was marred by a family dispute that led to most of his relatives being uninvited.

In June, the couple announced they are expecting their first child together.

Mr Ramsay-Peaty said his priorities have shifted.

Speaking to ESPN, he said: “I don’t see success as medals anymore.

“That’s not defeatist and it’s not waving the white flag.

“It’s probably the opposite.

“Success for me is coming away from Glasgow knowing I’ve done absolutely everything I possibly could to finish as high as I can.”

He has also reflected on his relationship with his famous father-in-law, saying: “[He’s] very inspiring.

“I think for him, it’s obviously a very different way of life in terms of the business he has to do and the businesses he has to run.
