Wallingford club barman sentenced for stealing thousands
Greg Welsh, 38, was sentenced to nine months in jail, suspended for two years, at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, August 7, on one count each of theft by employee and fraud by abuse of position.
While employed by the Comrades Club in Wallingford as a barman in June 2023, Welsh stole bags of cash worth £1,734 and ‘dishonestly abused’ his position as barman to ‘make a gain’ of £2,000 for himself.

Welsh, of Holyoakes Close in Redditch, Worcestershire, was sentenced to nine months in jail suspended for two years.
Wallingford Comrades Club is an historic social club which has been running for more than 100 years, formed by World War One veterans on their return to the town.
It won the title of South Oxfordshire CAMRA’s club of the year for 2026, which the head of the establishment, Alan Streets, put down to it’s ‘great ales and friendly banter’.
