Update on Christian Horner’s potential F1 comeback

The former Red Bull team principal was seen at the British Grand Prix, almost a year after leaving the team.

Horner departed from Red Bull in July 2025, having led the team to eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ titles over two decades.

Since then, he has remained outside an official Formula 1 role, contemplating his next move.

At Silverstone, Horner expressed continued interest in Formula 1, emphasising that any return would have to allow him to make an impact and compete for success.

One potential route back involves Alpine, who confirmed in January that Horner was part of a group of investors interested in acquiring a stake in the team.

Although discussions have been held about the sale of a 24 per cent holding, there has been no confirmation of Horner securing a stake or a management role.

Horner has also been connected with Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD, amid speculation about its potential Formula 1 entry.

The Financial Times reported early discussions between BYD and Horner about the manufacturer’s Formula 1 ambitions.

The discussions, however, do not confirm a BYD team nor Horner’s involvement.

For now, the former Red Bull boss remains outside official team structures, with his Silverstone appearance and confirmed Alpine investor interest adding fuel to the comeback discussion.

However, no confirmed team, ownership deal, or management position is currently waiting for him.
