‘Unauthorised’ Traveller caravan parked near Didcot college

Thames Valley Police has said it is ‘aware’ of a single caravan and associated vehicle currently parked off Didcot Road, Great Western Park in Harwell, near Didcot.

The ‘unauthorised encampment’ is reportedly set up on a grassy area just off the road, near the campus for college UTC Oxfordshire.

Officers from the Didcot Neighbourhood Team said they are ‘working closely’ with the council’s Gypsy and Traveller liaison officer, the landowner and the individuals in the encampment.

They added that UTC Oxfordshire is ‘also aware’ of the situation.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We are working closely with the council’s Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Liaison Officer, the landowner and the individuals present.

“At this time, the site is clean and tidy. Although there are several dogs present, they are secured and kept away from public footpaths. No local amenities have been affected. UTC are also aware. 

“The Neighbourhood Team will continue to attend daily to monitor the site and address any concerns.”
