UK Truck Festival goers hit by food poisoning from seller

Festivalgoers have been complaining of upset stomachs from one of the stallholders at the Steventon-based four-day event.

Some 27,500 people attended this year’s Truck Festival, a record in what has been described as the “biggest and best” yet.

It has been claimed by dozens of people that the food poisoning came from a Yorkshire pudding stall called ‘Yorky’.

Environmental health officials have launched an investigation, while Truck Festival organisers removed the vendor “within 90 minutes” of it being reported to them.

One festivalgoer, who asked for anonymity, told us: “Truck are an excellent team and the festival is well run but all festival organisers need to do something to crack down on these sorts of food stalls turning out unsafe food fast at high prices.

“The same thing happened at Download where food from a Yorky stall left around 500 people needing hospital treatment.

“At best food poisoning ruins an expensive event. At worst, it is a serious danger to health.”

Festival organisers have an internal investigation is also taking place and a food vendor has been identified.

“On Sunday morning, our on-site medical team received reports from a number of attendees with similar symptoms,” a spokesman for Truck said.

“Our health and safety team launched an immediate investigation and identified a third-party food vendor as the suspected source.

“That vendor was removed from operation within 90 minutes of the first report.

“We reported our findings to the local Environmental Health officer the same day and are supporting their ongoing investigation into the cause.

“We share the disappointment and frustration of those whose weekend was affected”.

A spokesman for Vale of White Horse District Council said said the authority has been made aware of a “potential food poisoning outbreak” at Truck Festival.

“Truck Festival reported the issue to us and said that a number of festival goers reported the food poisoning symptoms to the medical tent,” he said.

“From this, after some investigations, they were able to quickly identify a potential source and Truck Festival closed the stand.

“We are investigating the issue and are working with the food business, Truck Festival, UKHSA and the trader’s own local registering authority.”

Other people who attended this year’s festival took to social media to complain of the food poisoning.

One person said: “Who else got food poisoning from a f****** Yorkshire pudding? Having the trots with those toilets is NOT for the faint of heart.”

Another said: “Only just recovered. Luckily I was staying off site, how on earth people managed who camped. Definitely needs to be reported. Yorky need to review their practise.”

One woman was reportedly so ill she was rushed to the A&E department at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for urgent tests.
