Travellers arrive in Abingdon park with multiple caravans
County Councillor Tom Greenaway said he saw the group arrive late on Saturday evening, August 15, to Albert Park in Abingdon.
Now, he said, ‘multiple caravans, cars, a mixture of loose and contained horses, geese and dogs, and work vehicles and industrial machinery’ are parked on the grass.
The private park belongs to the charity Christs Hospital Abingdon, who reportedly confirmed to the councillor that they are ‘raising the required legal notices to move this encampment on as soon as possible’.
Thames Valley Police has been to the park to investigate ‘reports of crime’ and is reportedly closely monitoring the site until the group moves on.
Cllr Greenaway added: “Disappointingly, while speaking with residents, several of us were sworn at by someone driving a car across the park, so please be aware of vehicles and loose animals in the immediate area where you may not usually expect them.
“I have asked to be kept informed of how this progresses and will share more information when I have it.”
Another report said the bar or lock on the Victorian-era gate of the park appears to have been bent out of shape in order to open it and gain access.
Thames Valley Police has been approached for comment.

Warwickshire Police explained that the 56-year-old has not been seen since Friday morning and has urged anyone with any information to get in touch as soon as possible.
They added that he is around 5 foot 8 inches, has grey hair and is believed to be wearing a blue shirt, blue shorts and brown shoes.
A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “Have you seen Dominic? He was last seen in the Cape Road area of Warwick at around 10.30am yesterday morning (Friday) but has not been seen since.
“Our officers are growing increasingly concerned for the 56-year-old’s welfare and urge anyone who sees him to get in touch.

“Dominic is described as around 5ft 8” tall, with grey hair and is believed to be wearing a blue shirt, blue shorts and brown shoes.
“He has links to Warwick and Oxfordshire.
“Anyone who sees Dominic or knows where he might be is asked to call 999 quoting incident number 191 of 28 August.”
The Thames Valley Police Abingdon unit arrested a man for “breaching court bail conditions” on Saturday, August 29.
A spokesperson said: “On Saturday, PC Hackett attended reports of a male breaching court bail conditions.

“With assistance from PC Ellingworth and PC Harvey, the male was arrested. Following a search, a knife was recovered from his possession.”
In a wide ranging update, the force also revealed it had supported in a “concern for welfare incident linked to the night-time economy.
In addition, it had carried out licensing checks across Abingdon with drug wipes used and sent off for testing
