The Queen’s Head Inn in Stow-on-the-Wold has been included in the newspaper’s Best Pubs in the UK 2026 guide, which highlights 650 venues across the country.

Owned by Donnington Brewery, the pub has been a fixture in the Gloucestershire market town for more than a century and is known for its traditional character, food and drinks offering.

The guide was compiled by a panel of experts and focuses on pubs that combine history, character, quality beer and a warm welcome.

Each venue included in the list was visited and assessed before being selected.

In its review, The Telegraph said the Queen’s Head would be the ideal choice if someone were looking to cast a quintessential Cotswold pub in a Hollywood film.

The publication praised its limestone exterior, cosy rooms, exposed beams, flagstone floors and traditional atmosphere.

It also highlighted Donnington Brewery’s commitment to preserving historic pubs and noted that the venue offers good value in a region where prices can often be high.

Landlord John Maher welcomed the recognition and said it was an honour to be featured in such a respected guide.

He said the pub’s enduring appeal comes from remaining a “proper, traditional Cotswolds pub” while protecting the history and character that make it unique.

Mr Maher said good beer, good food and a warm welcome remain at the heart of the business and praised staff for delivering that experience to customers every day.

He also said he was pleased the guide had recognised the importance of providing value for money in a popular tourist destination.
