The town’s 2026 Clubs and Societies Day took place on Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the Guildhall, in St Nicolas Church, in the Market Place, and at Unit 24 in the Bury Street precinct.

Clubs and societies were given the chance to showcase what they do, recruit new members, and connect with each other to see how they might work together.

Among those exhibiting in the Guildhall were Freemasons, including those from St Swithuns Lodge, who arranged for a new monk statue to be placed on the Marcham Road roundabout leading to Abingdon Tesco Extra.

Croquet and Scottish country dancing was also on show.

In the market place, one of the most popular stalls was run by Abingdon Vale Cricket Club.

Following their most successful season, which saw three of their four teams promoted, the Culham Road club is preparing for another busy summer.

With record membership, and a thriving women and girls section, which launched three years ago, the club offers cricket for five to 75-year-olds.

Chairman Rob Hood said: “It was great to engage with so many Abingdon residents and showcase our club.

“We have made so much progress on and off the field in recent years – and we’d love to see more people at our ground this summer, either watching or playing.”
