Mrs Shrager said: “Oxford is a place I’ve returned to over the years, and now with my grandson at the university it feels even more special.

“There’s something about the city – the history, the atmosphere – that always draws me back.

“I have such happy memories here, including visiting with my husband years ago and buying a pearl necklace for a friend from a little antique shop that’s still there today, which is rather lovely.

“It’s a beautiful place to spend time, and to be back cooking at Treadwell at The Store, right in the heart of it, is such a treat. I’m really looking forward to the weekend – it’s going to be great fun.”

The chef aims to transport guests on a journey to revisit the dishes that once defined the British dinner party.

Diners can expect familiar favourites.

The evening begins with a cocktail, followed by a curated five-course menu inspired by retro favourites, including Celeriac cappuccino with a surf and turf assiette, smoked haddock gratin with toasted brioche and lamb with shallots, glazed baby mushrooms, fine French beans and buttery mash.

There will also be chocolate truffle cake with caramel sauce, chocolate ice cream quenelle, and pears in red wine with rum cakes to finish.

Mrs Shrager is a chef, writer and broadcaster who has spent decades showing Britain how to cook food that’s generous and flavour-led.

Her professional career includes a period working for Pierre Koffman at the Tante Claire restaurant in London and also a period working for Jean-Christophe Novelli.

Her latest programmes include The Big Family Cooking Showdown and The Real Marigold Hotel, which aired on BBC to great acclaim and was nominated for, and won, a string of awards.

This is the second chef takeover session to be hosted by The Store. The first earlier this year featured Sabrina Gidda.
