A long-awaited charity golf day is making its return for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hummingbird Centre, based in Launton and supporting people with cancer and their families, is bringing back its popular fundraiser for the first time since before the pandemic.

The event will be held on Friday, May 15, at Kirtlington Golf Club near Bicester.

Paul Harris, trustee at The Hummingbird Centre, said: “I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday – enjoying a round of golf, sharing lunch and helping to raise money for a very worthy charity.

“We are really excited to be bringing the golf day back.

“The last time we held this event was before COVID-19 and so many people have asked us to revive it – so here it is.

“We’re looking for teams of four to sign up for £250, with a reduced price available for full members of Kirtlington Golf Club.”

The format will be an 18-hole team Stableford competition, with the best two scores from four players counting on each hole.

The day starts with tea, coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, and includes nearest-the-pin and longest drive contests.

A post-game lunch will be followed by a prize presentation, raffle and auction.

Mr Harris added: “We are also looking for businesses or individuals to sponsor holes at £100 each.

“The event was really popular in the past, so I’d encourage people to sign up quickly.

“It promises to be a lot of fun, with a little friendly competition and will help us raise vital funds for a truly worthwhile charity.”

All funds raised will support The Hummingbird Centre’s services across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.

The centre provides therapy, counselling, group activities, a Lymphoedema Clinic and children’s services for people living with cancer.

The charity relies entirely on donations and volunteers.

It was established in 2014 by Mechelle Harris in memory of her father, Raymond Hurcombe.

Gary Quainton, golf and pro shop manager at Kirtlington Golf Club, said: “This will be the third time The Hummingbird Centre has hosted their golf day here, and it’s always a fantastic occasion with a great atmosphere.

“The day is a wonderful chance to meet new people, enjoy the course and, with it taking place on a Friday, it’s the perfect way to kick off the weekend.

“We’re delighted that the Hummingbird Charity are returning to Kirtlington Golf Club for what promises to be a highly enjoyable day.”

The Hummingbird Centre is open Tuesday to Thursday from 10am to 4pm, and Fridays from 10am to 3pm.
