Tesco Henley shoppers urged to vote for £1,5k grant winner
Addington School, Henley Hockey Club, and The Woodland Centre Trust have been selected for support through Tesco’s Free Fruit & Veg grants programme, which awards £500, £1,000 and £1,500 to projects focused on improving young people’s access to healthy food in Henley on Thames.
The programme funds breakfast clubs, holiday food provision, community pantries, and cookery and nutrition sessions, among other food-related initiatives.
Addington School hopes to use the grant to transform its allotment, enabling SEND students to gain a qualification in horticulture while learning to grow their own produce.
Funding would help Henley Hockey Club continue promoting active lifestyles and community connections through sport.
The Woodland Centre Trust plans to support Camp Mohawk, a facility for children with disabilities and their families, by upgrading both indoor and outdoor areas.
Claire de Silva, head of community at Tesco, said: “Every child deserves the chance to enjoy healthy food and build the foundations for a stronger future, so we want to support the brilliant schools and community groups in Henley on Thames helping children and young people access nutritious food.”
Shoppers can vote by placing a Tesco token in the relevant box in-store.
The scheme is part of Tesco’s wider Fruit & Veg for Schools ambition, which works to help more than one million schoolchildren get fruit and vegetables through its school and community programmes, run in partnership with community charity Groundwork.
