Stan Mills chose not to play for Oxford United amid Preston transfer

The Yellows drew 2-2 at home to the Dons thanks to a 95th-minute equaliser from centre back Ciaron Brown.

MK had come from behind in the first half, Charlie Goode cancelling out Mark Harris’ opener before Aaron Collins put the visitors into the lead.

Last season’s Player of the Season, Mills, was due to be included in the match day squad but was replaced last-minute by 17-year-old Mo Missanga who ended up making a big impact off the bench.

Ramsey confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Friday that Mills is set to move to Championship club Preston North End in January after weeks of speculation.

Despite training all week and being passed fit by United’s medical team, the 22-year-old was absent from Saturday’s squad.

“I had a message from Stan this morning that he felt like he wasn’t ready to participate in the game,” the Yellows head coach detailed.

When asked if Mills’ decision had frustrated him, Ramsey replied: “I think obviously it does.

“It’s frustrating, of course, because he’s trained all week.

“The medical team that I trust and things said that he was available for selection.

“But obviously, he feels like he’s not in the right place to be able to play.

“I want a player of standard quality to be available for selection.

“I was hoping for that but he’s got to prove his worth as well now.

“We’ve got a competitive squad, so there’s a lot of competition from places.

“But we’ll see how he reacts.”
