Slice golf bar swings to new heights after successful launch

Keen golfers Ollie Yates and Karim Sutton, who first met on the course at Frilford Heath Golf Club, opened Slice in May.

Since the launch of the Trackman golf simulator activity bar and New York-style pizza hotspot at Botley’s West Way development, the duo has expanded its range, in response to high customer demand.

“The response from customers has been fantastic” said Mr Yates, “We’ve been really encouraged by the support we’ve received from both the local community and visitors to Oxford.

“We’ve been particularly busy from Thursday through to Sunday, with occasions such as Father’s Day proving especially popular.

“It’s been great to see people embracing Slice as somewhere to meet friends, enjoy great food and drinks, watch live sport and experience something different.”

The team is looking forward to introducing live music and DJs on weekend evenings.

It continues to work with its partners at Trackman to add new games, courses and offerings to its old system.

Recently, it introduced Angle of Attack for all its clubs, allowing players to deep dive into their swing data.

A range of new food and drink packages for large groups and corporate bookings will be added, as well as the introduction of a number of seasonal offers, with a particular focus on students.

Now its New York-style 18 inch pizzas and slices “are absolutely nailed” it will expand its food and drink menu to offer new dishes, weekly specials and some healthier options, too.

Friends, work groups and families will soon be able to participate in local leagues and tournaments, and its social membership.

Mr Yates said: “While we’re pleased with the start we’ve made, there’s still plenty of opportunity to welcome new customers.

“As we move into the autumn, we’re looking forward to welcoming even more groups looking for a fun indoor activity, as well as golfers wanting to keep playing and practising whatever the weather.”

But the launch wasn’t as smooth sailing as they would’ve liked, following an altercation outside its premises in its first opening weeks, in which a man in his twenties received minor injuries.

Mr Yates said he “sincerely hopes it was an isolated event”, adding that the safety and wellbeing of its customers and staff is its “highest priority”.

He said “We now have licensed door security in place during busy periods and major sporting events, alongside enhanced closing procedures and staff protocols where appropriate.

“We’re committed to providing a safe, welcoming environment where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves, and we want customers to feel confident that we’ve taken sensible steps to reinforce that commitment.”
