Seven arrested and five youths charged in Oxford crackdown

The charges and arrests relate to an ongoing investigation into the theft of motorbikes, mopeds, and pedal cycles in Oxford, and bring the total number of charges to more than 30 so far.

Thames Valley Police said: “The investigation remains ongoing and further enquiries are being carried out.

“We would like to thank members of the public who have provided information and continue to support our efforts to tackle vehicle crime across the city.”

All individuals arrested and charged are currently subject to strict bail conditions, with police unable to provide the identity of the five teenagers charged due to legal reasons.

The force warned that breaching these conditions could result in further arrests and appearances in court.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team confirmed that multiple lines of enquiry are still being pursued as part of the wider effort to address vehicle-related theft.

This comes amid a number of recent updates about bike and moped theft in Oxford.

Only last week, an Oxford 15-year-old boy was charged with more than 10 offences, including the theft of pedal cycles and motor vehicles.

A month ago police seized 19 bicycles and e-bikes from an address in Oxford after tracing a bike reported stolen from outside the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Also in the past few weeks, Oxford MP Layla Moran had her new cargo bike stolen in the city.
