Retail group takes over family-run craft shop in Thame

The UOE retail group which owns 40 stationery, Post Office and gifting stores across the south east has opened a new store, Stamp, in Thame High Street.

It takes over the premises of Glynswood of Thame, a family-run arts and crafts store.

The new business said it aims to bring ‘fresh energy’ to the high street while preserving the shop’s long-established retail team, the historical character of the building and the range of products.

Elliot Jacobs, CEO of UOE, said: “We believe the high street isn’t dying. It just needs businesses willing to invest in it properly.

“We are making a significant investment in this unique high street location to make it a vibrant and welcoming space that supports local connections and celebrates Thame’s independent spirit.

“The team remains at the heart of everything we do, and we are excited to build on the relationships they have nurtured over many years.”

The company said it aims to refit and modernise the shop’s interior, use local suppliers and artisan products, and refit the upstairs community space ‘within the year’.

It intends to use the space for community events, workshops and potential artist-in-residence collaborations.

Stamp opens at 11 High Street in Thame on Thursday, April 16.

UOE has been operating since 1983 and has won awards for its Post Office, stationery and greeting cards retail, and runs the Post Office and stationery store in St Aldate’s, Oxford.
