However, plans to reopen the 35-metre freeform heated outdoor pool have been delayed due flood damage to the facility, caused by sixth wettest winter on record in Oxfordshire since 1836.

Rob Jennings, contract manager for Leisure Solutions Community Trust, which operates the pool on behalf of Oxford City Council, said: “We are very proud that during our first two years of operating, we were able to open on schedule. However, this year, our reopening date will be delayed.

“We can imagine how disappointing this news is for our loyal customers but hope they will understand that the situation is out of our control.”

More than £200,000 has been invested into upgrading the plant room during the off-season.

“While our swimmers won’t see these improvements, they will benefit from the upgrade work, which will cut energy consumption for the pool, reduce downtimes and provide a more consistent water temperature.”

The team is working towards a reopening date of mid-May to early June but an official date is yet to be confirmed.

The pool, a cherished South Oxford park feature since 1936, marks its 90th anniversary this year.
