Rain to hit four days in a row to end Oxfordshire heatwave

Showers arrived this morning (Tuesday, August 18) and the wet weather is set to continue all week.

According to multiple sources including Apple Weather, the BBC and the Met Office, rain will also fall on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

This spell of wet weather is finally break what has been one of the driest and hottest spells in recent years.

Alongside the downpours will come colder temperatures too with highs dropping down to just 20°C on some days next week.

This will all follow another hot run of days last week with highs of 35°C hitting parts of Oxfordshire last Thursday (August 13).

The exceptionally dry spring and summer which has already prompted Thames Water to impose a temporary hosepipe ban across its region, including Oxfordshire, after repeated heatwaves and very limited downpours.

Nationally, the Environment Agency has warned that large swathes of central, eastern and southern England have been experiencing prolonged dry weather.

Ministers have been urged to prepare for the possibility of wider drought conditions if rains fail to materialise.

Locally, gardeners and farmers have reported parched ground and low river levels, with residents told to conserve water and avoid using hosepipes, sprinklers and jet washers until restrictions are lifted.

Although no official date has yet been given as to when the ban will end, the return of rain will likely ensure this end date is sooner rather than later.
