The Red Arrows are the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, based at RAF Waddington, and have been performing precision flying displays since the mid‑1960s.
They were formed in 1964–65 to replace several separate RAF display teams and initially flew Folland Gnat jets before switching to the BAE Systems Hawk T1 in 1980.
Today the nine‑strong team is regarded as a global showcase for British aviation, having carried out almost 5,000 displays in 57 countries and acting as ambassadors for the UK at home and overseas.
