Quality UK holiday provider to be liquidated amid £41K debts

Firefly Holidays, which is based in Abingdon, is heading into liquidation after a resolution was passed on August 4.

A meeting was held on the same day at which it was decided the company would be wound-up voluntarily and that Stephen Mark Powell and Simon Lowes of BTG Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP would be appointed liquidators.

The firm was launched in 2016 and used to organise the ‘highest quality’ holidays for people across Europe including ski and camping resorts.

Previously it was featured in The Sunday Times 100 best holidays and it received two British Travel Award Nominations.

Its description on its LinkedIn stated: “Firefly Holidays offers the highest quality Holiday Villages, Camping Resorts, Ski Resorts and much more at the best prices across France, Spain, Italy and beyond.

“We help independently minded people enjoy far more for much less.

“Firefly Holidays was founded by a management team with vast experience in UK and overseas holidays to offer the better contemporary holiday experiences customers have been asking for but established operators have failed to deliver.

“Despite launching in 2016 with the challenges of Brexit, plummeting exchange rates and terror attacks in Europe, Firefly Holidays has established a strong following, with 99 per cent of surveyed customers saying they would be happy to book again, featuring in the Sunday Times Best 100 Holidays in its first full season and receiving two British Travel Award nominations after its second.”

However, a decade since its founding, the decision has been made to wrap up the firm and on Firefly’s website, it confirms it is no longer taking bookings.

It said: “After 10 fantastic years, Firefly Holidays is no longer taking bookings.”

They added: “It’s been our absolute honour to help our customers experience amazing holidays and award-winning adventures.

“Now the Firefly team are taking our own road-trip towards new destinations.

“Although Firefly Holidays is no longer taking bookings, we’re happy to help valued customers and new contacts with any travel questions and advice.”

In its latest published accounts on Companies House, to March 31, 2025, it reported creditors falling within a year of £41,490, a significant increase on the year before.

During the period it reported an average of one employee although on LinkedIn, it said it had between two and 10.

On Facebook it showcased a number of holiday destinations it offered including in Croatia, Guadeloupe in the Caribbean and in the European Alps.
