Probe launched as multiple fire crews fight Oxford blaze

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Hyacinth Walk in Greater Leys, yesterday (Tuesday, August 25) at just before 9pm.

Four crews attended from Rewley Road, Slade Park and Wheatley stations and there tackled a fire within a garage, which was threatening to spread to nearby properties.

In breathing apparatus and armed with high pressure hose reels, they fought the blaze and stopped the fire from spreading to other homes.

A spokesperson for the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The call came in at 8:48pm.

“Four fire engines attended from Rewley Road, Slade Park and Wheatley fire stations. The location was Hyacinth Walk, Oxford.

“This was a fire within a garage which was spreading to another garage and houses, rapid intervention by firefighters in breathing apparatus using high pressure hose reels prevented further spread and damage to adjacent properties.”

The crews left several hours later and since then a probe has been launched into the incident.

The spokesperson added: “The cause is unknown at this time.

“Crews began to leave the scene at around 11pm hours but fire investigation will continue.”

This follows several other fire incidents in and around the city recently including a blaze at Redbridge Park & Ride that also happened yesterday.

Multiple emergency service vehicles were seen at the site, which was closed to buses and cars while the incident was ongoing.
