Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said the power cut was reported at 6.08pm today (Monday, August 17).

It is affecting 1,063 properties in the Cholsey area with OX10 and OX11 postcodes.

Supermarkets are also believed to have been hit, with Waitrose in Martin’s Street allegedly without power. The store was contacted but they declined to comment.

Engineers are working to fix the problem, caused by a fault on the underground network. It is hoped power will be back on by 11.30pm.

On SSEN’s website it says power can often be restored quickly with a simple reset or by replacing a fuse at a nearby substation.

If the problem is more complicated, repairs may take a little longer, but its teams will be working until everything is safely back up and running.
