Popular Oxford United matchday pub listed for £495,000 sale
The price has been put on The George Inn, a boozer frequented by Oxford United fans before matchdays and based in Sandford Road, Littlemore.
The listing, by agents Christie Owen & Davies Ltd, describes the pub: “The George is a traditional, community-led public house currently operating as a sports and wet-led venue.

“The property offers a number of well-proportioned trading areas arranged around a central bar servery, creating a flexible and informal environment suited to a loyal local customer base.

“The pub has historically traded as a social hub for the area, with strong wet sales and a sports focus, and presents a straightforward operating model for an experienced licensee or multiple operator.”
Its current rateable value is £15,000 per annum having paid rates of £2,785 in 2025.

Previously the pub was the subject of a major local campaign after plans were launched to create eight homes on the building’s garden and car park.

The campaign would eventually lead to the pub becoming an Asset of Community Value, giving it some protection against development.
At the time, in 2020, Lynda Comber, Littlemore Parish Council chair, said:“This establishment gives so much to the community and has raised thousands of pounds for local groups and organisations by holding regular events, why would we want to see this go?”
She added: “The objections to this application shows how well liked this establishment is, every month the pub lays on an over 60s lunch, is home to many other local sports and welcomes supporters to relax and socialise before heading to watch Oxford United.”
