Multiple emergency services were called to Hollow Way in Cowley at around 1pm while police shut the road.

Severe traffic issues were reported in the area as a result while police officers, firefighters and paramedics dealt with it.

Thames Valley Police was asked for details of the incident when it happened, but more than a day later a spokeswoman said it was a mental health episode and declined to give further details.

She said: “This relates to a mental health episode that’s now resolved. As such, we wouldn’t look to provide further details.”

Oxfordshire County Council was also asked for details from its fire and rescue service, but a spokesman declined to comment.

Witnesses saw police, firefighters and paramedics close to Ivy Close for some hours.

One reader claimed he saw officers “talking through a letter box” but doesn’t know what has happened.

Bus services were affected by the road closure, too, with Stagecoach diverting all 10 and 600 services along the bypass.

“Please expect delays to these services,” the bus operator said at the time. “We will keep you updated.”
