Police issue advice ahead of free Oxfordshire music festival

Bunkfest is set to return to Wallingford this weekend, from Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6, and Thames Valley police have given out some tips ahead of the popular event.

The force said neighbourhood officers will be patrolling the event throughout the weekend, and have asked people to take simple precautions to stay safe and happy.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “The countdown is on, and we’re looking forward to seeing Wallingford come alive with fantastic music, great food, brilliant company and plenty of community spirit.

“Our officers and staff from a number of local Thames Valley Police teams will be patrolling throughout the event all weekend.

“We’re there to help everyone enjoy themselves safely, so don’t be afraid to come and say hello if you see us out and about.

“Most importantly, have fun, support the fantastic local organisers, and enjoy everything BunkFest has to offer.

“We’ll be out and about all weekend, helping everyone stay safe so that the only thing you’ll be chasing is an encore.”

Advice includes keeping belongings close, as large crowds can ‘attract opportunistic thieves’, avoiding leaving personal items unattended, keeping an eye on drinks and drinking responsibly.

Sticking with friends or groups and checking everyone got home safely, planning your journey home in advance, charging phones before going out and being prepared for the weather were all recommended, too.

Event organisers added lost property should be handed in to or sought at The Festival Shop on the Kine Croft, where families can also get free waterproof wristbands for children for parents to write their phone numbers on.
