Police in public plea as scooter seized in Oxfordshire town

Thames Valley Police has said that they took the e-scooter from the road yesterday (Sundat, April 5) after they saw a “young lad” riding it in Banbury.

A spokesperson for the police’s Cherwell unit said: “While out on patrol today, neighbourhood officers came across a young lad riding an e‑scooter.

“He was spoken to about the laws surrounding e‑scooters and why they cannot be used on public roads, paths, or spaces.

“The scooter was subsequently seized.”

Since then, police have warned parents not to buy their children e-scooters as they constitute a public risk and will be seized by the force.

The spokesperson added: “Parents/Guardians, please stop buying e‑scooters for your children.

“They may seem like a fun gift, but the moment they’re used in public, they put the rider, pedestrians, and other road users at risk, it is illegal and they will be seized.

“Let’s keep our community safe by making sure everyone understands the law and makes responsible choices.”

The unit will continue to patrol Banbury and said that if anyone wants clarification on e-scooter rules or other police matters then they should feel free to approach the team and ask.
