Players invited to Launton table tennis marathon for charity
The event will raise funds for The Hummingbird Centre, which supports people with cancer and their families across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire.
Organised by Ian Critchley, Alan Smith, and Paul Harris, the marathon will run from Friday, April 10, at 8pm to 8pm the following day at the centre’s headquarters in Launton, near Bicester.
Matches will be a mix of singles and doubles, with players rotating in and out to allow for breaks.
Paul Harris, a trustee at The Hummingbird Centre, said: “A few of the Hummingbird’s volunteers and trustees play table tennis competitively in the Banbury & District Table Tennis League, so we decided to challenge ourselves and hopefully raise the profile of this fantastic game locally.
“A core group of players will be taking part for the full 24 hours, but we would love to invite additional volunteer players to join in.
“If you can spare an hour or more and would like to take part, please get in touch.”
Players are encouraged to seek sponsorship and help raise funds for the centre.
Ian Critchley, a fellow trustee, said: “It would be great to see as many people as possible come along – whether to play for a while or simply to support us during the day or night.”
