Parking restrictions proposed at Botley West Way centre

Planning permission for the major new, mixed-use development west of Oxford, designed to ‘reinvigorate’ Botley as a residential and shopping centre, came with the condition of new traffic measures when it was granted in 2016.

Parking controls are proposed to prevent ‘overspill’ traffic and parking on surrounding residential streets, and to stop all-day parking by commuters or visitors to the area.

Oxfordshire County Council has now launched a consultation on parking restrictions proposed for a number of roads surrounding the West Way development.

Under the proposals, new ‘residents permit holders parking only’ would be introduced on most of the roads in the area.

This would apply between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and would allow permit holders to park on unrestricted parts of the highway.

Outside of these hours, non-permit holders would be free to park for a limited time.

People who live in specific properties on all of the above roads would be able to apply for annual residents permits, limited to one per resident with a maximum of two per household, which would cost £80 for the year.

Residents can also apply for and visitors permits with a maximum of 50 days per year provided in blocks of 25.

Visitors permits would be free for residents aged 70 or over and for other residents the first block of 25 would be free, with the second charged at £31.50.

Double-yellow lines, ‘no waiting at any time’ would also be introduced on St Paul’s Crescent and other lengths of roads.

The proposals are open for consultation on Let’s Talk Oxfordshire until April 10.
