Wallingford’s Women’s Institute group were inspired to polish the statue of Agatha Christie in the Kinecroft in Wallingford after a talk by the sculptor, Ben Twiston-Davies, about its creation.

Agatha Christie lived in Winterbook House on the outskirts of Wallingford after she married her second husband, Max Mallowan, in 1934 until her death in 1976 and is a celebrated figure in the town.

The statue of the world’s bestselling novelist was installed on the Kinecroft bench in September 2023, and a permanent exhibition is dedicated to her in Wallingford Museum.

This year the museum, which reopened this month for its 2026 season, will hold a special exhibition on the author to mark the 50th anniversary of her death.

The town’s Agatha Christie Weekend will also return this year on May 22 to May 24, with a packed schedule of talks, events and shows to celebrate her legacy.
