The high street chain was put into administration back in January 2026 alongside The Original Factory Shop (TOFS).

This came after their owner said “last-ditch” measures had fallen through, putting about 2,500 UK staff at risk of redundancy.

The two retailers had already undergone restructuring and were bought by investment firm Modella Capital last year.

It was reported this month that all of The Original Factory Shop’s stores had permanently closed across the UK.

The brand, which employed around 1,355 employees, shut its store in Carterton at the end of March as part of this.

Now, it has been confirmed that the Claire’s store at the Westgate shopping centre in Oxford will be closing its doors for good this weekend.

Having had yellow sale signs up for weeks at the shop on the middle floor of the retail location, there are now new signs as of today (Friday, April 24), which state only two days remain.

It is a similar story at other Claire’s stores across the UK, which have the same yellow signs on display in the window warning of imminent closures.

A spokesperson for the Broadway shopping centre in Bradford told our sister paper, The Telegraph & Argus: “The centre hasn’t been given an official date [for Claire’s closure].

“But the store will keep trading until stock runs out.”

Just like in Oxford, multiple signs there say “Store closing down”, “Everything Must Go” and “All stock reduced” as the shop looks to sell its remaining merchandise.

Armed cops stormed Cowley Road, by Manzil Way, late on October 2 in dramatic scenes witnessed by multiple people at the time.

People watched on in shock as around seven unmarked Volvo police cars and marked cars pulled up in the busy high street at about 10.30pm.

Up above, a police helicopter had also been scrambled to assist the boots on the ground.

Three men, aged 32, 22 and 19 and all from Oxfordshire, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a class A substance and possession of a class B substance.

Thames Valley Police said the weapon used by one of the men was not a firearm as speculated by witnesses, but was in fact a “bladed article”.

One video shared with us showed a man, dressed entirely in black, being escorted away by three police officers gripping him by his arms.

Another video showed a different man, dressed in a black puffer jacket, grey tracksuit bottoms and black croc shoes, detained under the watch of an armed officer with a gun by his side.

In an update, Thames Valley Police said the investigation had been filed.

A spokesman said: “Following our investigation, the three arrested men have been released with no further action and the report has been filed pending further information coming to light.

“We take such offences extremely seriously and will continue to fight crime and serve victims.”
