Oxfordshire pub to reopen today under new management

The King Alfred’s Head in Market Place, Wantage has been closed for more than a month.

The pub will be open to the public to see from midday today (Tuesday, July 28).

Aron, new manager of the King Alfred’s Head, said: “I’m Aron, and I’m absolutely delighted to be taking over The King Alfred’s Head today!

“We’ll be reopening tomorrow at 12pm for drinks, with food being served from 5pm.

“I can’t wait to meet you all, become part of the local community, and start this new exciting chapter together.

“Pop in and say hello.

“See you tomorrow.”

The pub went through a massive refurbishment last April with its former managers, featuring an iconic painting of King Alfred with a cone on his head commissioned by the pub in honour of the statue of the monarch on its doorstep in Market Place square.

The local landmark is regularly adorned with an orange traffic cone “crown” by residents who climb up and place it on his head.

The “fun and quirky” painting takes pride of place on the ground floor, which has been fully renovated and given a shiny new look.

From Wednesday the kitchen will be open 12-8pm Monday to Saturday.

And the pub will also serve a Sunday roast from 12-5pm.

The pub at 31 Market Place in Wantage is owned by Punch Pub & Co.
