With the sunny weather starting this weekend (Sunday, March 22), the county’s fire and rescue service has issued a warning to motorists about driving after drinking alcohol.

A spokesperson said: “Drinking alcohol and then driving significantly impairs your ability to drive safely and greatly increases your chances of being involved in a collision, with the possibility that you or someone else could be killed or seriously injured.

“Don’t drink and drive to avoid spending time behind bars rather than standing at one.”

The Department for Transport said that 260 people died in drink-driving related incidents in 2023.

The UK government has proposed lowering the drink-drive limit in England and Wales from 80mg to 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.
