Oxford United suffer 3-1 League One defeat against Huddersfield Town

A frustrating evening saw Bojan Radulovic’s strike and Joe Taylor’s brace down the Yellows at the Accu Stadium.

Gatlin O’Donkor had equalised after Radulovic’s opener, for his second goal in two games, but Taylor’s quickfire double condemned the travelling U’s to a first league defeat of the season.

An early save from Simon Eastwood began proceedings, the goalkeeper coming out to save after Huddersfield scrapped their way into the box.

The U’s countered and Tyler Goodrham saw a shot blocked before Joe Taylor had one denied himself.

The hosts then maintained pressure with Eastwood catching two more efforts, the veteran keeper then going on to deny Derensili Sanches Fernandes with a good save.

A frustrating first period preceded a second which started with a scare.

An unmarked Marcus Harness scuffed a shot near the penalty spot before Ibane Bowat lashed a second attempt wide with venom.

The U’s eventually found their second shot of the game through Mark Harris, the visitors winning the ball high up through Goodrham who then played the striker in, his low shot saved by Matty Young.

A big let off followed for United, Cameron Brannagan’s poor header backwards only finding Fernandes who fired wide for the hosts.

Young winger Mo Missanga then carried Oxford forward, finding Siriki Dembele who was impeded in the box, the referee seeing nothing in it.

The Terries then took their chance, Radulovic receiving the ball in behind and slotting in the far corner to put the hosts ahead.

A big miss from Taylor squandered a chance to double Huddersfield’s lead before Oxford equalised.

A good run from Leo Snowden saw the youngster play the ball across to O’Donkor who tapped in from close range.

Taylor tried to restore the lead quickly but his duo of efforts were stopped impressively by Eastwood and Sam Long.

However, the hosts did renew their fortunes quickly, Taylor heading a flick-on in at the back post from a corner.

The 23-year-old then doubled his tally and his side’s lead with a cool first0time finish past Eastwood, the U’s caught sleeping and left wide open at the back.

Martin Drury’s side remained on top in the closing stages and saw out the three points in the first clash between these two side since 2004.
