Oxford United in transfer race for giant Bromley defender

The U’s are reportedly one of at least five clubs in a race to sign the Bromley defender who has been flying this season with the League Two league leaders.

Sowunmi has impressed at both ends of the pitch for the Ravens, scoring six goals from defence across the current campaign for a team that are currently on a 20-game league unbeaten run.

The 30-year-old has also contributed to a defence that has kept 14 clean sheets in the fourth tier so far this season, the joint-third in the division.

Oxford are alongside Bolton Wanderers, Barnsley, Plymouth Argyle, and Scottish outfit Aberdeen who have been named by football reporter Pete O’Rourke as the teams interested in the towering defender, with other clubs reportedly also keen.

The U’s are currently in the midst of a relegation battle in the Championship and are unbeaten in their last four matches, picking up three wins and a draw.

With Sowunmi having played League Two football for most of his career and with him entering the later stages of his career, it would be unlikely that the Yellows would pursue a move for the Bromley man if they were to secure survival this year.

Perhaps a move could occur if Matt Bloomfield’s men were to be relegated; either way, Sowunmi will likely be playing in League One next season.
