Oxford United coaching brother duo depart from club

Craig Short, assistant head coach, and his brother Chris, head of sports science, departed the club.

Craig spent six years at the club, working under five permanent managers and serving as interim head coach on three occasions.

He said: “After many memorable years, my time at Oxford United has come to an end.

“It has been a privilege to represent the club as assistant manager, first-team coach and, when called upon, caretaker manager.

“I am particularly proud to have played a part in the club’s promotion to the Championship and of the results we achieved during my time in charge of the team.”

He thanked the club’s owners, including Erick Thohir and Sumrith ‘Tiger’ Thanakarnjanasuth, for their support.

Craig also expressed his gratitude to the club’s supporters and those he worked with during his time at Oxford.

He said: “Football clubs are built on good people, and I have been fortunate to work alongside so many fantastic players, coaches and staff during my time at Oxford.

“I would particularly like to recognise Ed Waldron, Chris Hackett and Lewis Price for their unwavering support during my spell as caretaker manager.

“Oxford United has a fantastic group of supporters, and I have greatly appreciated the warmth and support shown to me by so many of them over the years.

“It has meant a great deal, and I will always look back on my time at the club with enormous affection.”

Chris Short first joined Oxford in November 2018 and returned in 2022 after a brief absence.

He worked alongside his brother during a period of significant change and success for the club, contributing to the team’s physical preparation and wellbeing.

Both brothers leave with warm wishes from Oxford United.

The club said: “Everyone at Oxford United would like to thank Craig and Chris for their years of dedication and professionalism.

“They depart with our sincerest gratitude and our very best wishes for whatever comes next.”

The Short brothers have been touched by the support shown since their departure.

Craig said: “We have both been genuinely touched by the many messages and kind words received from players, staff and supporters since our departure.

“We leave with some fantastic memories and wish Aaron, his new coaching team and the players every success for the season ahead.

“Oxford United has been a very special chapter in both our careers and in our families’ lives – one we will always remember with enormous affection and pride.”
